The Florida Project

Lately, I have been watching more movies in a very busy and complex schedule. If you ask me how I am doing it I honestly can tell you with faith, determination with a sprinkle of procrastination. Once I binge watch a whole series within 24 hrs., I’m left with the reality of what needs to be finished. It seems it balances itself out especially when I find gems like The Florida Project. I posed questions to myself, Why I’m I just finding out about this gem now?! The premiere date was in 2017, well in 2017 I was literally binging through my last semester in college to walk across the stage.

Moving forward , I can’t feel that bad with not watching it on its premiere date since I came across it I must share this review with you. The background of The Florida Project leaves a lot to ones’ imagination which draws in viewers, whom thrive off of creativeness with seduction! I would be doing a disservice if I gave the movie away and that’s why The Florida Project needs to win an Academy Award. The elements of survival, friendship, law, fun, and critical thinking is the epitome of its success and why I advocate for the “small films”.

This Rated R movie might have you thinking why would a child be part of the main storyline and is it appropriate for other children to watch? As my children watch the movie with me and I ask my eldest did he understand the meanings, what was his thoughts? He replied they (the children) were “talking smack”. This conclusion probably came from the language used that my children know not to repeat as I teach them its not appropriate for their age. Ironically, examining the movie made myself examine life and how what we think is inappropriate for us may be appropriate for others. As you will come to see the innocence of Moonee and the other children, do they truly understand the intricate parts of life?

Besides the use of language , eliminating the semantics, the meat of this movie can not be measured due to the reality of life—— anything can go. I applaud Bri Vinaite, Brooklyn Prince, Director Sean Baker and the other countless cast members that develop the storyline each step from the rising actions, climaxes and the negative review at the end I add, leaving one asking why, why did you end it like that? Yet , that small criticism is overshadow by the due diligence to offer views of life and hope. Reality to parts and parts of reality. When you decide to watch this movie assuming you haven’t or re-watch it I want you to understand why The Florida Project will be among my top 10 films of all time.

As Halley stated ” FUCK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUU”
